is an offline automated URL classifier. “Offline”

not pose performance problems in terms of Internet access.
What does URLChecker
do?
Conventional URL blocking software relies on a list of URLs
to block access. This list needs to be constantly updated
to ensure that new sites containing pornographic material
are blocked. The problems with keeping the list up-to-date
are locating new websites and ii) checking whether they are
pornographic or not.
The first problem is handled by
storing all URLs being accessed from within the community
being protected. The majority of URLs accessed will not
be new and are easily identified through comparison with
the list of previously accessed URLs. The second problem
is solved by URLChecker which automatically classifies URLs
as being pornographic or not. URLChecker improves productivity
in maintaining lists of pornographic URLs by over 1,000%.
How is URLChecker more accurate
than other systems?
URLChecker uses a number of techniques such as image processing,
neural networks, domain specific rules, text processing, drill down,
back tracking and rating systems to determine whether the website
associated with the URL is pornographic or not. Most conventional
systems use only text processing and rating systems.
Will URLChecker categorize
porn websites as non-porn?
URLChecker is accurate at the 99.9% level in determining which website
is porn. Websites containing only a few features indicative of pornography
are categorized as suspect and are reviewed manually.
Does URLChecker require
specialized hardware?
The URLChecker system does not need to be installed and operated
on specialized hardware. URLChecker will be able to work on most
modern PCs running Microsoft Windows XP.
